UK firm pays biggest ever fine over
'pirate' software
June 21, 2007,
An unnamed UK firm has agreed
to pay a record fine of £250,000 ($498K)
for running unlicensed software.
The company (which operates in the
infrastructure and public services
sector) was running unlicensed copies of
Adobe, Autodesk, and Microsoft software
on hundreds of PCs across several UK
locations.

VCAT Settles Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Related to Its Mariposa
Software System; VCAT Obtains Injunction as Part of the Settlement
Jan. 5, 2006--Venture Catalyst Incorporated ("VCAT"),
reached a comprehensive settlement of its suit against TRMP,
LLC, Cohn Technologies, Inc., Mindset LLC and related third
parties. VCAT's claims in the lawsuit include breach
of contract, trade secret misappropriation, copyright
infringement and other related claims.
Pursuant to the settlement, the defendants and related
third parties agreed
-
to pay money damages to VCAT;
-
consented to a stipulated injunction and dismissal
with prejudice under which they are enjoined from
participating in certain prohibited activities related
to VCAT's business and products until September 1, 2007;
and
-
stipulated to the dismissal of all of their claims,
counterclaims and cross claims in the action that they
had against VCAT and its officers.

September 19, 2005, Microsoft files 8 anti-piracy lawsuits
Microsoft filed eight anti-piracy
lawsuits in five US States against companies that allegedly distribute
counterfeit versions of its software or copies that infringe on copyrights.
These companies are: BWT Industry Technology Service,
dba Computer Max in Arizona; Data Day USA, MicroCity4Less.com and Winvtech
Solutions Inc. in California; Global Computing Inc. in Illinois; Ion
Technologies in Minnesota; and Compustar and Chips & Techs in New York.
